THE SITE FOUNDERSINDEX.HR ARRESTED FOR "SWASTIKA"

Croatia, December 3, 2013 (UNS ) - The founder of the portal "Index.hr" Matija Babic was detained for questioning by the police, because he published a photograph of the Croatian flag on which in place of a checkerboards there is a swastikas. He was detained because of the illustrations with a swastika instead of a chessboard, which is published on the portal "Index.hr" on Sunday night with the article "Croatia decided as before: 65 percent for discrimination".

An indictment will be submitted against him through regular channels, was confirmed in a statement by the Zagreb Police Department, and reported by Croatian media.

During a police interview Babic said the motive for placing the illustration is a warning on strengthening of fascism in Croatia, which is manifested by restricting the rights of minorities .

Babic said for Index.hr that Croatia was more interested in the question of an illustration warning against fascism than in fight fascism itself .

When asked by the police whether the illustration will be removed , Babic said he does not have that intention. Babic is not the editor of Index , nor formally its owner.

If misdemeanor charges are raised, it will be a reference to Article 4 Law on the Coat of Arms , Flag and Anthem of the Republic of Croatia and the flag and strip the President of the Republic of Croatia .

According to the article of the law, the national flag of Croatia cannot be changed at all, and people who do so may be fined, like the fine which was recently passed against football striker Josip Simunic ( 25,000 Kuna, or about 3,300 Euros) for shouting slogans " For the home ready " after a match at Maksimir .
