Only 10 percent of MEDIA in Press Council

The goal of self-regulatory body is to bring together the creators of 85 percent of the circulation of print media

Belgrade, December 5, 2011. (Danas) - Since the Press Council officially started operating in Serbia two and a half months ago, only 66 out of 610 registered the print media in the Agency for Business Registers have joined this self-regulatory body. Ten daily newspapers, 22 magazines and 34 local newspapers are under the "control" of this body.

Council's spokeswoman Gordana Novakovic said today that the goal of this body was to gather 85 percent of the total circulation of print media in Serbia, not just certain names of a number of newspapers. She says that they are now negotiating with certain media on joining this self-regulatory body and that it would be ideal if they could gather 100 percent of the circulation of the press.
