To publish details on sale of Politika, Novosti and Dnevnik

Belgrade, December 21, 2011. (Danas) - Fray of political and finance groups over the purchase of VAC's shares in dailies Politika, Vecernje Novosti and Novi Sad daily Dnevnik has most directly revealed the attitude of the Government toward the media. This is also an answer to why neither of the ruling power since 2000 was interested in passing the Law on transparency of media ownership, said yesterday the president of the Union of Journalists of Serbia Dragana Cabarkapa, at a press conference titled "The collapse of journalism in Serbia".

As Union president and journalist of Vecernje Novosti, Cabarkapa sent a request to the director of this print media to inform employees about the possible sale of VAC share, but as she said, was given a reply that the director "does not know that and does not need to know that; the same applies to any other employee".

Politika's Union of Journalists President Zoran Anastasijevic also pointed out that the request had been sent to the Politika management that it should inform employees about the sale of the papers, but no response was received until yesterday.

He added that the situation was much similar to this one when VAC had bought part of this newspaper. He urged the Serbian authorities to disclose details of the sale of Politika, Novosti and Dnevnik.
