PROSECUTOR REJECTS APPEAL OF JOURNALISTS IN ZRENJANIN

Zrenjanin, December 27, 2011 (Vecernje Novosti) - Acting Appellate Public Prosecutor in Novi Sad Djordje Ostojic said that the Higher Public Prosecutor's office in Zrenjanin had acted in line with applicable regulations governing the relations with the public and interested representatives of the media.

Responding to complaints from representatives of the media in Zrenjanin concerning the attitude of the Higher Public Prosecutor Borislav Miglinski towards journalists and the public, Ostojic said that the Higher Prosecution had provided information "as much as necessary and possible, without compromising the interests of criminal procedures being led and interests of participants in them".

Zrenjanin-based journalists addressed Republic Public Prosecutor Zagorka Dolovac and acting Appellate Public Prosecutor Ostojic with a letter, complaining of having failed to establish any contact with Miglinski since his appointment in 2009 to the position of the Higher Public Prosecutor in this town.

"Contacts with the Deputy Higher Public Prosecutor Dusanka Djordjevic, as a spokesperson, have brought no results, despite several attempts. With all the previous prosecutors in Higher Public Prosecution, the cooperation was correct and successful", journalists pointed out in the complaint and noted that they were deprived of timely and comprehensive information on the work of the Prosecution, especially when it came to information about indictments.

New appeal

Journalists, however, have not given up and announced complaints to the State Prosecutors' Council and the Ministry of Justice. The only request they have is to be enabled to perform their job unreservedly.
