MEDIA NEED MENTAL TRANSITION

Belgrade, December 29, 2011 (Danas) - Media in Serbia need some kind of mental transition, that is, changes within media are necessary to be conducted, not obstructed, said yesterday Jelena Trivan, president of the Serbian Parliament's Culture and Information Committee.

At the presentation of the "Challenges of European Integration", magazine of the Official Gazette dedicated to media, Trivan said that the state needed to urgently regulate the ownership in media and illegal concentration, and to completely withdraw from ownership in media.

"The state owning 137 media is just not natural", said Trivan, "as it is also irrational scattering of funds. The state needs to withdraw from media ownership, and deadlines provided for in the Media Strategy are rather rational. Privatization of media, however, is something that will take a slower pace, since the media sector is poorer than ever and has no interested parties in their purchase".
