TEST BROADCASTING OF DIGITAL SIGNAL STARTED

Belgrade, March 22, 2012 (Politika) - Minister of Culture, Media and Information Society Predrag Markovic put into operations the Initial Network for testing of digital TV signal broadcasting yesterday at the Avala Tower.

The signal will cover 40 percent of Serbian population with digital signal.

At the occasion, the Culture Minister pointed out that it was an important moment for Serbia, as it was complying with international obligations, taken at the Conference in Geneva in 2006. The launch of the Test Network was made possible with the use of equipment acquired with 137 million Euros, support of EU IPA funds, out of which 10.5 million was secured for preparation of digitalization and transition from analogue to digital broadcasting, Markovic said.

With this act, Serbia has joined the club of a number of European countries which have launched the process of transition from analogue to digital broadcasting of TV signal.

10 TV programs in standard SD resolution and one TV program in HD resolution will be broadcast in the initial network. The network is in its experimental phase and is intended for testing the signal of transmitters of various parameters and options for widening the scope of signal receiving.
