"Broadcasters have not broken law"

Belgrade, March 27, 2012. (Tanjug, B92) - The Republic Broadcasting Agency (RRA) Council said on Monday that Serbia's national broadcasters have not violated any laws or the General Binding Instruction.

The Council discussed petitions of the United Regions of Serbia and the Serb Progressive Party, which say that the ruling Democratic Party has a privileged position and much more broadcasting time in news programs of national TV broadcasters.

They also stated that DS leader Boris Tadić was abusing his office as the country's president in order to campaign for his party.

The parliamentary and local elections in Serbia are scheduled for May 6.

"All broadcasters in Serbia are free to follow the work of all state bodies and their officials, regardless of whether there is an election campaign ongoing or not, to an extent corresponding to the editorial concept of their news programs and production capacities," the RRA statement reads.
