Three TV outlets found to have violated election silence

Belgrade, May 6, 2012 (Tanjug, B92) - The Serbian Broadcasting Agency (RRA) today ordered cable operators to stop broadcasting Croatia's HRT and two other channels for violating elections silence.

Bosnia-based OBN and Serbian television Koperenikus 3 - World Plus have also been ordered off the air.

These television programs are interrupted in cable networks as they have broadcast contents which have violated the election silence, RRA Vice President Goran Karadžić said.

He added that the TV stations will be able to resume broadcasting via cable operators at 8 pm, at the end of the pre-election silence.

Karadžić also said that the RRA monitors what other TV stations are broadcasting too, and that in the event that they violate election silence, it will order their programs to be interrupted.

Presidential, parliamentary and local elections are being held in Serbia Sunday, and the election silence period, in accordance with the law, ends at 20:00 CET. when the polls close.
