Democrats say they "demand Politika sale to be probed"

Belgrade, Julz 18, 2012. (B92, Beta) - The Democratic Party has announced that it and its officials "had nothing to do" with the sale of the Politika Novine i Magazini (PNM) company.

The party - accused by their rivals of being behind the sale - also said it wished to see the transaction "investigated".

In a statement issued in Belgrade on Wednesday, the Democrats said they supported all demands for "transparent ownership" of all media in Serbia to be determined.

"For this reason, we are demanding that appropriate institutions, in line with the law, investigate the said change of ownership and determine the truth, which would pave the way for all those who have baselessly slandered the Democratic Party to take responsibility for everything that has been said," the release stated.

Germany's WAZ sold its 50 percent stake in PNM to Russia-based East Media Group for the price of EUR 3.7mn.
