TV FEE WILL BE CHARGED

Belgrade, August 30, 2012 (Vecernje novosti) - The invalidation of the TV subscription fee is not an idea of the Ministry of Finance and Trade, nor this proposal was ever considered, it was confirmed by this Ministry to the daily Novosti. According to the Ministry, the TV subscription fee is not a para-fiscal due, so it cannot be included in the list of 107 other fees that woud be revoked in October.

Members of Parliament also discussed the issue of the TV fee at the parliamentary session yesterday. Representatives of DS and LDP think the fee should not be revoked, as it would jeopardize the independence and editorial autonomy of the public service. Direct financing from the state budget would seemingly bring back RTS under direct political control of the Government of Serbia. However, the invalidation of the fee was supported by JS, who think that 500 RSD for TV is a great of a fee for citizens.
