TAX INSTEAD OF TV SUBSCRIPTION FEE

Belgrade, September 1, 2012 (Press) - Instead of paying TV subscription fee, the citizens of Serbia will from now on pay a tax that would be charged per residence unit.

As daily Press reported, the working group of the Ministry of Culture has established the Draft Law on Public Services stipulating the work of the national, provincial and regional public services and their financing method.

The Article 44 of the said Law prescribes the termination of the TV subscription fee and introduction of the tax that would be paid by all citizens of Serbia over 18 who have a residence unit or business premises in their name. If a person owns several units, he/she shall pay the tax at the address of his/her residence.

The amount of monthly dues for citizens is prescribed in the Article 47 of the Law, stipulating that the tax shall be 1.5 percent of average net salary in Serbia, based on the statictic data for the previous calendar year, which is currently 600 RSD. Citizens will be able to pay tax for three months in advance, in which case they are allowed to 10 percent discount. On the other hands, those failing to meet this obligation will be sanctioned under the Law with a 5.000 RSD fine.

The Law provides for the operation of republic (RTS), provincial (RTV) and six regional public services in Belgrade, Kragujevac, Nis, Novi Pazar, Uzice and Zajecar.
