STATE WILL WITHDRAW WITHIN DEADLINE

Belgrade, September 13, 2012 (Vecernje novosti) - Deputy Culture Minister Dragan Kolarevic said yesterday that five laws important for the media were currently in the process of drafting, namely the laws on public information, electronic media, public TV services, acreditations and illegal concentration and tranparent media ownership.

At the round table of media and journalists' associations, titled "Media Strategy - what next?", Kolarevic said that all regulations were in the phase of proposals and working versions that would go through a process of discussions.

Kolarevic noted that the new government would not start from the scratch regarding the Media Strategy, but would continue to work on legislations by trying to surpass identified problems.

He also said that the Strategy clearly stipulated that the state needed to withdraw from ownership in media and that it would strive to respect the document's provisions taking into consideration legal and experts' opinions.
