Shutdown of TV 5

Nis, November 05, 2012. (Vecernje novosti) -  "No more TV 5". This was the only news in the central news program of the Nis-based private broadcaster TV 5 on Friday. The oldest Nis television ended the broadcasting this way, after her Republican Broadcasting Agency revoked its broadcasting license for nonpayment of taxes for regional frequency.

- Central news of TV 5 has been the most watched news program in the region for 18 years - said TV presenter Vesna Zivadinović Pecenkovic, addressing the audience for the last time.

- We tried to inform you fastest, best and most objective about all we thought you should know. Your trust what we did all these years is the best proof that we often succeeded.

This TV station was founded in 1994 as the first private television station in Nis. According to the surveys from November 2010, its program was by far the most watched among local and regional television stations in Nis. After the revocation of its license, journalists and technical staff have aired the program in the city center for 15 days, in protest at the decision to exclude their program from the cable offer. At the same time, they organized the petition for preventing shutdown of this media outlet.
