WE WANT PROTECTION, NOT APOLOGY

Valjevo, December 26, 2012 - Instead of an apology, Valjevo journalists want concrete protection and proper punishment for the councilor and deputy mayor of the city, coming from the citizens' group "Pobeda", who had insulted them at the City Assembly session two days ago, calling them "scums" and obstructing their reporting.

Professional associations expressed their support to journalists in their letter to the Mayor, Assembly president and state prosecutor, calling on protection of integrity, profession and right to work.

"We are calling on the officials of the city and the state to stop proscribing one vulnerable group, us journalists, and to prevent others to do the same. We demand our status official person be respected and our personal safety be guaranteed. We expect that you will put an end to this dreadful trend and spare us your kind words and unkept promises", says in the open letter of Valjevo journalists.

All parliamentary parties, including two largest ruling parties SPS and SNS, have condemned the behavior of the "Pobeda" councilor.
