FIVE YEARS IN PRISON FOR THREATENING JOURNALISTS

Belgrade, December 21, 2012 (Politika) - The Serbian Parliament's Justice Committee adopted yesterday the amendment to the Amendments to the Criminal Code prescribing penalty of six months to five years in prison for threatening journalists.

The Ministry of Justice requested that the provision on threats related also to journalists be deleted with proposed amendments to the Criminal Code. Currently, the applicable Code stipulates the punishment of one to eight years imprisonment for this criminal offense.

By adopting the amendment, the Committee prevented the deletion of this article of the Code, explaining that during the general discussion on amendments to the Code, the majority of parliament members expressed their opinion that the provision pertaining to journalists should not be deleted.
