TWO YEARS TO WITHDRAW FROM MEDIA

Belgrade, January 30, 2013 (Vecernje novosti) - A legislation that would regulate the issue of illegal concentration of ownership in media, withdrawal of the state from media, aid to public service broadcasting and advertising will enter into parlamentary procedure by the end of March this year.

The Assistant Culture and Media Minister Dragan Kolarevic told daily "Novosti" that by the end of this week, only few things were left to be incorporated into the Law on Public Information and Media, namely transitional and penal provisions, before the text of the law was tabled before the Parliament for discussion. The text will also be forwarded experts of EU, Council of Europe and OSCE.

Kolarevic also said that the state had opted to withdraw from media. Although the state needs to find a formula for the case of Novosti, Politika and transformation model for the state news agency Tanjug, it was committed to respect this option at least within two years from the adoption of the law.
