ONE HUNDRED MILLION FOR RTS RUNNING COSTS

Belgrade, February 8, 2013 (Pregled) - RTS did not ask one hundred million Euros from the government - this the money the public broadcaster needs to operate.

Ever since the crisis started back in 2008, the public service broadcasting institution has managed to secure the funds from advertising and subscription, it was stated at the staff meeting of RTS.

Reacting to the statement of Finance Minister Mladjan Dinkic that the state did not have one hundred million Euros to give to the broadcaster to operate, as it was the kind of money anyone would know how to run the TV station, members of RTS staff said that the minister ought to have been aware that one third of the subscription was taken away by the state through taxes.

"The above figure is the total amount of possible subscription and marketing revenue and maybe only then we will come to the sum necessary for survival and work of a public service of this size and responsibilities", it was stated at the meeting.

It was also noted at the meeting that back in 2008, RTS had managed to collect 106 million Euros from subscription and advertising, but only 67 million euros last year.
