WORK ON NEW INFORMATION LAW IN PROGRESS

Belgrade, February 22, 2013 (B92) - The Ministry of Culture's State Secretary Gordana Predic said that the new Law on Public Information will enter parliamentary procedure in April.

Predic also said the law was very important for getting the date for EU accession talks.

"We have reached the final version in drafting the legislation that should be announced next week",  Predic told TV Pink, reminding that the working group for drafting the law was comprised of eminent experts for media law and journalists.

She announced also four round tables to be organized in March this year - in Novi Sad, Novi Pazar, Nis and Belgrade, after which the working group would compile the law that would be forwarded to the Culture Minister and the Government.

Predic noted that, under the Media Strategy, the state was obliged to withdraw from ownership in media and to demonstrate transparency of ownership in media.

According to her, the separate law on electronic media and public service broadcasting is also being developed, which will regulate as well the issue of financing of the public service broadcasting.
