Korhec: minority media not the central problem

Novi Sad, March 8, 2013. (Magyar Szó) - Depolitisation of the media should not be made through minority media, because the core of the problem is not hidden there - President of the National Council of Hungarians, Tamas Korhec, stated. At the same time, if making media free from political influence generally succeeds, then every effort should be taken in order to stop possible direct political influence on minority media - Korhec said for Magyar Szó commenting the Draft  Law on Public Information and Media, which provides that the national councils may not be the founders of the media, while this task can be given to the foundations to be formed by national councils.

- I reject all attempts to prove that the Serbian media are devoid of political parties' influence while the minority media are not. The situation in which minority media are devoid of national councils is not possible as the accountability relationship of the national councils towards minority media is guaranteed by the constitution. It is possible to think about some other form of this relationship to be applied in the future. Possibility of accepting the system foundation could be considered. You need to examine the consequences of different options - Korhec said for Magyar Szó.
