STATE TO WITHDRAW FROM MEDIA

Novi Sad, March 5, 2013 (B92) - State Secretary in the Ministry of Culture and Media Gordana Predic said that it was a "strategic commitment" of the state to withdraw from ownership in media.

Speaking at the first public discussion on the Draft Law on Public Information and Media held in Novi Sad, Predic said that this law confirmed the state's commitment to withdraw from the ownership structure of media.

Member of the Ministry's working group preparing the Draft Law Rade Veljanovski said that when the state withdrew from ownership in media, it would not mean it would have been relieved from its obligation to assist media. He pointed out that the deadline for privatizing all media owned by the state was January 1, 2014.

Public discussions on the Draft Law on Public Information and Media, organized by the Ministry of Culture and media, will also be held in Novi Pazar, Nis and Belgrade. The organization of the discussions is also supported by the OSCE and British Embassy in Belgrade.
