STATE TO WITHDRAW FASTER

Belgrade, March 4, 2013 (Blic) - The political will to withdraw faster from ownership in media is non-existing, said ANEM President Sasa Mirkovic.

"I would like the draft law on public information have provided for even shorter deadline for the state to withdraw from ownership in media, but I am afraid there is no political will for that. A valuable time of year and a half has been lost since the adoption of the Media Strategy", Mirkovic said.

The draft law stipulates that the state would stop financing media from the budget by January 1, 2014. After that date, the media would be financed through projects.

The key issue here is that the privatization process be initiated with the adoption of the law. Project financing as the only means of financing media starting from the beginning of the next year will be the sign that things are moving in the right direction, Mirkovic said.
