FIVE MONTHS IN PRISON FOR EDITOR

Novi Sad, March 22, 2013 (Dnevnik) - Former chief editor of the Novi Sad-based newspaper "Nacionalni gradjanski list" Milorad Bojovic has been delivered a first instance verdict punishing him to prison sentence of 150 days over libel charges.

Back in 2011, Bojovic was charged with libel for publishing an article in the then active newspapers, by journalist Tatjana Vojtehovski, who was mentioned in the article, together with Nenad Canak, to have been involved in a romantic liason with much younger partners. The court had first punished Bojovic with 150.000 dinars fine, but as he had failed to pay the fine within the provided deadline, the punishment was changed to five months prison sentence.

Bojovic said that if the state had decided to annul libel as criminal offense, then all cases in relation to this offense and all verdicts passed in the last few years should have been annuled and stopped, or have this absurd situation resolved in some other way.
