MINORITIES MERELY DECORATION

Zrenjanin, April 4, 2013 (Dnevnik) - "The majority of Serbian media present attacks and offenses by members of ethnic groups as harmless and a child's play", it was noted by the Ombudsman in Zrenjanin Dragana Radlovacki Grozdanov in the annual report for 2012.

Analyzing the treatment of the problems of national minorities in media, she said that physical attacks on members of other ethnic groups were quickly rated as something not ethnically inspired, but just a criminal offense per se.

National minorities are treated as decorations taken out of the boxes in special occasions, without the need to point out their specificity, culture and history worth of attention and respect.

Radlovacki-Grozdanoav also believes that the majority of media is still prevailing in presenting members of ethnic minority groups in as negative light as possible.
