HAD THERE BEEN LUSTRATION, ASSASSINS WOULD HAVE BEEN KNOWN

Nis, April 5, 2013 (Narodne novine Nis) - Deputy President of the League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina (LSV) Bojan Kostres said the believed the "assassins of journalists would have been known today had there been lustration in Serbia".

"The absence of lustration in the last 10 years has prevented Serbia to finally face its problems and start working on their resolution. This way the responsible ones for the dark period of 1990s were kept far away from the public", Kostres wrote in a letter to journalists' associations.

In his letter, Kostres informed the Independent Journalists' Association of Serbia (NUNS), Journalists' Association of Serbia (UNS) and Independent Journalists' Association of Vojvodina (NDNV) of his belief that lustration would have also resulted in temporarily or permamently prohibited "journalists, who have been proven of warmongering, disinformation and hate speech, to practice journalism".

"Without lustration, the nineties are coming back. Extremist organizations' attacks, graffiti, hate speech, threats, public burning of Vojvodina flags, black lists and insults based on ethnic origin are more and more frequent", Kostres pointed out.
