GOVERNMENT NOT ABOVE THE LAW

Belgrade, May 3, 2013 (Blic) - Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection Rodoljub Sabic said that in 2011 and 2012, competent authorities had not initiated a single procedure against the violators of the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance, even though there had been thousands cases of law violations.

"It is important that the government and its representatives understand obligations they have towards media. The problems are many, which is exactly why it is necessary to raise the issue of liability for violating legal rights of the public", Sabic said on the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day, May 3.
