KREMENJAK: RTS ON BUDGET – BAD SOLUTION

Belgrade, May 14, 2013 (Blic) - Members of the working group tasked to draft the law on electronic media have stood against the concept of direct financing of RTS from the budget, said attorney at law Slobodan Kremenjak, member of the working group.

The Draft Law foresees that RTS and RTV be financed directly from the state budget by December 31, 2015. Experts of the working group have refused to sign such proposal coming from the Ministry of Culture and Media.

"Financing of public service from the TV subscription fee is a much better model than direct budget financing. The reason for such opinion is that we are not convinced that there are mechanisms that would prevent the government to exert pressure on public service and its editorial policy by giving it money from the budget", Kremenjak said.

According to him, the working group has proposed that the subscription fee remains the model of financing.
