FIRST GENDARME CALLS ON TRUTHFUL REPORTING

Belgrade, May 15, 2013 (Mondo) - Commander of the Serbian Gendarmerie Bratilav Dikic called on media today to refrain from releasing false and unverified information.

By publishing verified information, media are becoming guarantors of justice and protection of security of Serbia, much like the Gendarmerie has done for years, says the first gendarme of Serbia.

The Internal Control Department has submitted to the Prosecution the report with evidence obtained in the investigation against several members of the Gendarmerie.

"For quite some time, certain media have been hurting reputation of police officers and gendarmerie with their unverified information and headlines", Dikic said in his statement, reacting to the media reporting on the investigation against corrupt members of his unit.

Dikic said that some media were doing the job of the Prosecutor or courts, by charging, detaining and convicting some police officers in their reports.
