LAWS TO PROTECT MEDIA FREEDOM, NOT TO LIMIT IT

Belgrade, May 24, 2013 (Blic) - Free media are the pedestal of every democratic society, which is why the European Newspaper Publishers Association (ENPA) is opposing the attempts to limit media freedom by any legislation, said the ENPA Secretary General Ivar Rusdal.

Speaking at the General Assembly session held in Belgrade hotel "Hyatt", Rusdal said that such attempts were visible in the European Union as well.

He also commended the latest endeavors of the Serbian Government, which had brought more respect towards Serbia in the EU.

Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia Vincent Degert also noted that Serbia was surely moving towards the EU accession talks as it had done plenty in the area of cooperation with the Hague Tribunal, negotiations with Pristina and reforms in judiciary, media freedom and most importantly, the adoption of the Media Strategy that had foreseen transparent media ownership and media financing.
