MEDIA JUSTICE ONLY BEFORE THE HIGHER COURT IN BELGRADE

Belgrade, December 24, 2013 ( UNS ) - According to the  Law on Seats and Territories of Courts and Public Prosecutors, from 1 January 2014 media disputes and disputes about copyright for whole territory of Serbia, in the first instance, will be in charge of the Higher Court in Belgrade. It also means that the appeals from the judgment of the Higher Court in Belgrade will solely be decided by the Appellate Court in Belgrade. According to the Law on Amendments and Supplements to the Law on the Regulation of Courts, all proceedings in the field of media and copyright commenced until 1 January 2014 in courts outside of Belgrade will continue in the courts in which they were initiated.


Amendments to the Law on Courts were adopted by the Assembly of the Republic of Serbia on 20 November 2013.


The aim of these changes is the harmonization of case laws when it comes to media disputes.


The judges who will be truing the media disputes will have additional training in the field of media law.
