LUKIC: DO NOT EXPECT RBA TO BE AN EDITOR

Niš, 10.2.2014 (Tanjug) - The Executive Director of the Republic Broadcasting Agency (RRA) Dragan Lukic said today that media should not expect this agency to be an editor for media outlets and to decide when an event is in the function of the implementation of state policies, or part of the election campaign.

"Whether a certain activity of state officials is treated as part of the election campaign will be decided by editors of media outlets," said Lukic, who participated in the consultations for media representatives on election campaign rules.

He said the RBA Council will be in permanent session and will monitor adherence to the General binding instructions for the election campaign.

Deputy Chairman of the Executive Council of the Press Council Petar Jeremic told reporters that the public will be able to file complaints with that body if they believe that they have been damaged by reporting of print and online media.

According to our experience, the most common complaints relate to false statements of fact and the violation of the presumption of innocence, he noted.

RRA, the Press Council and OSCE organized in Nis a consultative meeting with representatives of media outlets in this part of Serbia about the rules for reporting on the election campaign.
