TODAY IS THE WORLD RADIO DAY

Belgrade, 13.02.2014 (B92) - 13 February is celebrated across the globe as the World Radio Day. UNESCO has declared this holiday to promote radio as a medium and the opportunities it provides.

Radio is a medium that reaches all layers of population and that can do much for education, cultural and political dialogue and can help people in various life situations.

World Radio Day was established by UNESCO in 2011 because on 13 February 1946 the first Radio UN program was broadcasted.

In today's digital world, radio remains the most accessible medium that can be heard in the most remote corners of the planet. For UNESCO, the World Radio Day is a recognition of benefits that radio has been bringing to mankind for over hundred years.

Nikola Tesla was one of the inventors of radio. He was the first to present the principles of radio and the transmission of signals over long distances.
