JANKOVIĆ: TABLOIDIZATION OF THE STATE

18.3.2014 (Blic) - There is a serious violation of the citizens' right to be truthfully informed about issues of public importance in Serbia, assessed the ombudsman Sasa Jankovic in the yearly report he submitted to the National Parliament.

Due to the race for circulation and ratings, but also under the influence of various power centers, along with truthful information, citizens are provided with selective, incomplete, semi-information, as well as entirely false, factually inaccurate information (misinformation), the ombudsman stated.

Jankovic stated as problems the following: the pressure on the media and leaking of confidential information into privileged tabloid media. Vociferously announced fight against corruption has not yet yielded results in the form of final court decisions, stated Jankovic and added that the second round of the reform of the judiciary did not lead to the improvement and greater independence of the judiciary.
