Elections Approaching
CACAK, July 4, 2002 - The Serbian Government has withdrawn the draft Broadcast Bill from parliamentary procedure so that the authorities do not lose control of the media as elections approach, ANEM Chairman Veran Matic told Belgrade daily Blic yesterday. "Such a degree of independence of media which are currently under their control simply doesn't suit them," said Matic, adding that the reform of the state broadcast network would cut the connection between the executive power and journalists while the authorities would have no influence on the forming of the broadcasting control board.
