Veran Matic on Independent Journalism

BELGRADE, July 26, 2002 – Today’s edition of Belgrade daily Danas carried an interview with B92 editor in chief and ANEM chairman Veran Matic. Matic says an opportunity was missed after October 5 to cleanse society and the profession of journalism, adding that people who made professional mistakes should not be allowed to work as journalists. Looking at past eighteen months, Matic says that the once great energy of independent media was being eroded, since it had been deprived the opportunity to compete on a level footing with media privileged under the Milosevic regime.
