Gay and lesbian radio program wins award

BELGRADE, August 22, 2002 - "Gayming", a pioneering gay and lesbian radio program, has won the "Heimdahl" award for exceptional contribution to the development of mass media dealing with homosexuality. The program, authored by Dusan Maljkovic, is part of the Belgrade 202 night schedule entitled "Different people among us." The programme discusses "marginal groups", people not accepted in society due to difference. Presenting the award, the Scandinavian “Tupika” organisation of gay and lesbian activists, said the program had helped change Belgrade's previous reputation earned during the war as an intolerant city, characterized by violence and discrimination. It commended the "courageous broadcasting despite threats, homophobia and lack of finance."
