Gordana Comic: Media must respect morals and the facts

POZAREVAC, 23.8.2002 – Deputy speaker of the Serbian Parliament, Gordana Comic from the Democratic Party announced in Pozarevac that new media regulations will be completed in near future. “Laws on telecommunications and information need to be passed. Frequencies will be awarded to those who fulfill technical, programming and ethical conditions. At the time of passing the new legislation, those who produce and those who consume information need to be heard. The media will have to respect standards like the appropriate use of language, arguments, and adherence to the facts. We will not allow anybody to scream at the people,” said Comic. The minister proposed that an ethics commission be formed to fight the use of hate speech in the public domain.
