Seselj on Trial

BELGRADE, November 13, 2002 – The Fourth Municipal Court in Belgrade will today begin hearing libel charges brought against the leader of the Serbian Radical Party by the editor-in-chief of Belgrade daily Danas. Grujica Spasovic is claiming damages of 7,865,348 dinars (130,000 euros) for mental anguish caused by Seselj’s interview in weekly Svedok on August 27. In the interview, the ultranationalist Seselj is quoted as saying “There are also those media which are completely subservient to the regime, like Politika and Danas, purely American media whose editor is the CIA”.
