Journalists Warn Bishop Pahomije

BELGRADE, January 17, 2003 -- The Independent Association of Serbian Journalists today criticised Bishop Pahomije for his recent allegations against Vukasin Obradovic, the owner of daily Novina Vranjskih The Association said that the attack would not help the bishop in the current investigation of allegations that he has sexually assaulted minors. The Association also claims that Pahomije declined an offer from the paper to reply to the accusations, instead vilifying the paper and its owner, accusing them of self-interest and collaboration with Albanian rebels. The journalists say that Pahomije and others in the same position will not be able to defend themselves by accusing others, nor discourage journalists from their work.
