Industrial Action Hits New Programs

BELGRADE, January 21, 2003 – The Nezavisnost Union of Radio Television Serbia workers has announced industrial action from January 28, which will result in shortened news services and a complete cut in entertainment programs. The union has proposed cutting prime time news to twenty instead of thirty minutes and hourly news bulletins from five to two minutes. The same news program would be aired on all three television channels. Strike announcements will be broadcast every hour. The government has until January 23, five days before the planned start of the strike to prescribe minimum essential services.
