Journalists Condemn Incident In Belgrade District Court

BELGRADE, February 3, 2003 – The Independent Association of Serbian Journalists has condemned an incident yesterday in the Belgrade District Court, in which a journalist from Belgrade weekly ‘Reporter’ fell after he was pushed by a policeman. "This policeman’s behaviour is worrying because it reminds us of the times when the police used even the worst possible means to stand in the way of journalists’ efforts to do their job. “We note that Jovica Krtinic had properly identified himself as a journalist”, said the association. "The same day Krtinic was called in for questioning because we was ‘suspected of committing the crime of disturbing an official in performing his duty”, said the association, urging police to prove their efficiency by immediately questioning the officer concerned.
