Matic: Politicians still pressuring media

FRANKFURT, 23 June, 2003 -- Veran Matic, director of RTV B92 and chairman of ANEM - the Independent Association of Electronic Media, has claimed that politicians in Serbia are still exerting pressure on the media. In an interview for Frankfurt publication Vesti, Matic said that politicians are not influencing the media as they were during Milosevic's era, but it's clear that there is a strong influence over some of the media. He continued by insisting it would be hard to say that this is merely systematic control of state bodies, stressing that it is more about individuals or informal power centres controlled by some members of government and their friends.
