Beba Popovic sues Balkan

BELGRADE, August 22, 2003 - The Serbian Government's former spin doctor, Vladimir "Beba" Popovic, has filed libel charges against the editor-in-chief of Balkan, Momcilo Petrovic and the publisher of the daily Generalpublic. Lawyer Vlado Pavicevic told media that Popovic is seeking damages of 500,000 dinars (about 7,500 euros) for emotional distress and damage to his reputation. The charge relates to an article under the headline "Cane Subotic financing Ceda, Beba and Milo". The article quoted Zagreb publisher Ivo Pukanic as saying "Someone should ask Popovic who bought him an apartment in Vienna and an armoured BMW". The charge is the latest in a series brought by Popovic against local media outlets
