PRIVATISATION OF LOCAL ELECTRONIC MEDIA

BELGRADE, June 24, 2005 – Around 120 local radio and TV stations should get new owners in the next twelve months. Ministry of Culture has prepared a new Decree on the privatization process of local and regional radio and TV stations, which should replace the last version that has more obstacles than encouragement for privatization. Although still not officially enforced, the future Decree represents the attempt to start the ball rolling. “It is a very significant step forward, since the new Decree will enable the start of the privatization process of electronic media, which is the most important thing to us. We needed the “tools” to start working”, said Dragan Bosikljic, project manager for the media privatization in the Agency for Privatization.
