IJAS DEMANDS RESPECT OF THE CODE

BELGRADE, July 13, 2005 – Independent Association of Serbian Journalists (IJAS) protested strongly against the reporting of Belgrade dailies Srpski Nacional and Kurir on B92 journalist Brankica Stanovic. “Journalists of those dailies violated every article of domestic and international journalism code with their texts published between 6th and 9th July 2005, thus additionally demeaning already low professional ethics of the number of local media”, IJAS stated. “It is a typical example of already proven practice of media lynching of those having different opinion or those investigating political background, ownership structure or any other issue that concern local tabloids. Therefore, we appeal to all editors and journalists, regardless of the cruel market rules and orders of the media management, to have a look at the valid journalism code and think about the fact that, being the journalists, they have obliged to respect it”, said in the statement of the Association.
