SUBSCRIPTION CHARGE THROUGH EPS – AGAINST THE LAW

BELGRADE, September 26, 2005 – Serbian Ministry of Mining and Energy believes the charge of TV subscription together with the electricity is illegal and against the provisions that regulate the operations of the Electric Power Industry of Serbia. Under the Energy Law and many other acts that oblige EPS to select few of its companies that provided services to EPS but did not participate in the coal and energy production, this company is not accountable to charge for any other services except those determined as the principle operation of the company, the Ministry said. EPS told the Beta News Agency that they were ready to abide by the provisions of the Broadcast Act which envisaged the collection of TV subscription through the electricity bills, but only if the consumers would get two separate bills – one for the used electricity, and the other for the TV subscription.
