OK RADIO ACQUITTED OF CHARGES

VRANJE, December 28, 2005 – The owner of Vranje-based OK Radio Goran Vladkovic has been acquitted of charges of local socialists. Following the acquittal, Vladkovic demanded damage compensation of 24 million dinars (close to 283 thousand euros). “The court acquitted Vladkovic of any responsibility, thus proving that our legal system is sometimes immune to all kinds of political pressures, which were, in this case, neither minor nor insignificant”, said in the statement of OK Radio. “Yet another disgraceful episode of abuse of independent media by local authorities toward is thus brought to an end, this time in favor of truth and support to the profession”, said in the statement. The Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) local council filed a complaint against this media for broadcasting the news over a year ago, based on the sources’ report that certain local members of the Socialist Party had printed several thousand blank ballots. Despite the fact that OK Radio also aired the official denial of SPS, the complaint was filed nevertheless
